Franco Niccolucci, Italy

For the panel session, I may summarize my position in the following
questions:
1. Are archaeologists aware that computers are not simply another
technical commodity and that their use may have implications also at a theoretical level, possibly implying a "paradigm shift"?
2. What are we doing to improve the use of computers, in particular
data management and visualization techniques, in order to adapt it to the peculiar needs of archaeological research?
3. Since hypertexts, the Internet and virtual reality nowadays appear
as formidable new communication and education media, are they optimally exploited as far as archaeology is concerned?
