- The future of 3D modelling depends upon the speed and direction of
progress in the development of data-acquisition devices. (In my opinion, it is not the performance of today's desktop computers nor the 3D software which are the limiting factors in the wider use of 3D techniques but the high price and poor performance of the "3D scanners".) - When we do have access to good 3D scanners, the practise of archaeology will be permanently and profoundly changed. (Archaeologists do not just uncover the past, they thoroughly document what they find for posterity.
Replacing the current pencil drawings with photo-realistic 3D models will completely change the way archaeologists around the world will record their excavations, and also the way they will archive, interpret and interrogate their data.) - Archaeology is not the only field which will be affected by such 3D acquisition devices...
