INTRASIS
- The Intra Site Information System
Intrasis
is an archaeological information system for recording and
managing field data. It is developed by archaeologist for
archaeologist at the National Heritage Board of Sweden. Intrasis
is based on 12 years experience with digital field documentation
within The Archaeological excavation department.
The system has been used for three years at about 700 excavations
and at the moment it is used by 11 different institutions
in Scandinavia. We will present how the system will make the
fieldwork more efficient and how it easily can be modified
for different kinds of excavations. It is object-oriented
and therefore it will allow storage of almost any kind of
data. The user-friendly environment makes it possible to start
documentation with the system after just a few days training.
Analyses are made in ArcView with the extended help of the
provided IntrasisGIS extension.
At the workshop we will present the ideas behind Intrasis
and show how it works in practice. We will let the attendants
at the workshop use the system as well as gather data with
totalstations with the Intrasis method.
