This paper outlines the work of the EU Thematic Network project ORION (Object Rich Information Network) which is developing in Europe and beyond a network of key organisations who have a stake in the development of 3D technology, usage and literacy. The Network's initial focus of interest is 3D and archaeology and the founding consortium is made up of leading archaeological museums and respected technical institutions from seven European countries. The ORION Network is currently producing a Research Roadmap for the European Union which will be an invaluable guide in shaping the development of 3D internationally over the next five years.
