This paper describes a database created for geographical identification of archaeological place-names: the Thesaurus di Toponomastica Archaeologica (TTA) = Thesaurus of Archaeological Toponymy. The compilation of this database began in the 1987 and now contains about 8000 place-names. The TTA is a structured vocabulary mostly of the archaeological micro-toponymy of Tuscany. The database is organized in a hierarchical structure arranged from broader to narrower context (nations, states, communes, cities inhabitated or deserted archaeological sites). The TTA provides vernacular and Italian names of places, variant in other languages and historical names; the record for a place may also contain the descriptive note, geographical coordinates and bibliographic source of the names.
