Three-dimensional imagery, a new look on the Man of Tautavel

In 1981 was shown an empirical reconstitution of incomplete skull called Man of Tautavel. The rise of the digital picture give us opportunity to study a new time the fragmentary remainders (Arago XXI for the face, and Arago XLVII, right parietal bone) of 'Oldest French' (450 000 years).
After research on the original fossils records as well as digital acquisitions by x-rays, we have conduct to the space model-building with virtual replacement of the fossils. A preliminary work was realize on solid cast then, in a second time, the placements envisaging were ratify virtually.
The correct middle face was mirror, deformations were balanced, the parietal right was replaced differently. During this work, a new fragment was identify like belonging to this individual. The lack of some bones was offset by a virtual taking of bones on others more or less contemporary European skulls (Sima de los Huesos,…), digital too. The different hypotheses can be test directly, preventing a long and expensive work, by means of cast reconstitution difficult to handle.
This work will allow us to best knowing the hominids of Middle Pleistocene by replacing Man of Tautavel more perfectly, waiting of the discover of missing fragments during next excavations.
